THOUGHT: Go slow here. Read the quote for today a couple of times. Practice critical thinking. See if you can spot three glaring omissions from the vice president’s citing of the Declaration before you read on, because “freedom and liberty – not for some, but for all” from the mouth of the second in command of our country is pretty important stuff.
Harris leads a huge group of women (and men) with half-truths and misquotes and misunderstandings. And she proudly tells them they’re on the right side of history, while displaying a lack of understanding history.
She leaves out the part that says “we are endowed by our Creator;” she leaves out the word “inalienable,” which describes innate, natural rights that cannot be given up; and she leaves out the very first of three rights we are endowed by said Creator, “life.”
The promises of the Declaration are important enough to her to invoke, but not all of them. When you take God out of the equation, her own little declaration sounds as if the state endowed us with these inalienable rights, not God. Not possible. An endowed, inalienable right is something that cannot be given up; it is not something the state gives, it is something only our Creator gives. All men are created equal, not by the formation of the government of the United States, but by the Creator.
This is a higher law than any government in the world.
In the same document she (mis)quotes from, the founders made this provision: That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Chew on that for awhile.
PRAYER: Oh God, give us enough wisdom to love life and to spot any cheap imitations.
