Little Lesson 20: God’s Reality Show

I get to end the month today with the most recent song written; kind of fun! Thank you for hanging with me in February. It’s been a trip down memory lane – one I hope has encouraged you,

SCRIPTURE:  Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20 NLT

AUTHOR NOTE: I’ve been writing songs since I was a little girl. Even before I could write, I would make up little songs, and then I started writing them down. Recently I began to pull these songs and scraps of songs and poems together, and the numbers are growing. I’m calling the February devotional series “Little Lessons” and through Scripture and a snippet of song, you’ll get a glimpse inside my faith journey as I share what God has shown me along the way. February is a month when we celebrate love, and what bigger love to celebrate than the one that reaches down into human history and rescues and redeems? It’s the very stuff of love stories!

THOUGHT: One of the things that makes me trust the God of Scripture is that his highest, holy book – rather than being filled with high, holy, untouchable people – is filled with people a lot like you and me. It’s a reality show like none other. Read through the Old and New Testament, and see what happened to the people on its pages. Look at their fears, their brokenness, their ordinary-ness, their anger, their failures. Then look again at their God. It is his mighty power at work within us to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

This is why I believe. This is why I trust. This is why I feel loved and accepted and cheered on. I belong here. There is room at the table for me – and that goes for you too.

There’s a valley filled with shadows where the sun could never shine, and
I know the darkness there because I know these scars of mine
They remind me how I stumbled, longing, desperate for some light, and
How unseen hands of mercy lifted me when I cried out, but

If you don’t trust me, trust Daniel who trusted God from a lion’s den
If the past haunts you, just trust Rahab, be grafted in to a royal line
If you need courage, trust Moses, called from hiding to a promised land, oh
Trust the Savior who has a greater, simply outrageous, amazing plan

There are stories all around us, there are wonders, there are signs
Of a big God with big answers that astonish hearts and minds
He can rescue from a prison, he can give sight to the blind
He can meet the desperate need of someone doubting him tonight, but

If you don’t trust me, trust Peter, who walked on water through a raging storm
If you need mercy, just trust Mary, saved when no one could cast a stone
If you’re a doubter, trust Thomas, and touch the scars of a risen man, oh
Trust the Savior who has a greater, simply outrageous, amazing plan

Just look around you and believe;
there are plans God has that we cannot conceive, and
Faith is not a mystery, it’s hidden in plain sight
In stories just like ours the moment darkness turns to light, but

If you don’t trust me, trust Joseph, who trusted God at every twist and turn
If you are hurting, just trust the woman who found Jesus at the well alone
If you are guilty, trust David, there is mercy at the throne, just
Trust the Savior who has a greater, simply outrageous, amazing plan, you can
Trust the Savior who has a greater, simply outrageous, amazing plan
