Mystery & Faith

SCRIPTURE:  As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything. Ecclesiastes 11:5 ESV

THOUGHT: Ecclesiastes 11 is about a lot of things we don’t know. It’s about accepting that, and deciding to live and take risks and trust God anyway, despite the fact that we don’t control everything. There are certain things we simply can’t know, like how the winds will blow, where the rains will fall, when the disaster will strike, or this one in verse 5: the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child.

Part mystery, part faith.

I’m a truly curious person, so I’m certainly not saying we shouldn’t be curious, but if we start from the place of knowing the God who makes everything, we explore the rest of life through a sacred lens. We find a freedom to it all, rather than an insatiable desire to understand in order to control.

PRAYER: Oh God, you make everything that is solid and good and real. I don’t want to control it all, I just want to enjoy it, trust you, and say ‘thank you.’
