SCRIPTURE: Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19 ESV
THOUGHT: I noticed while studying for this post that Wikipedia calls creatio ex nihilo (creation out of nothing) the “creation myth.” God must really be impressed by that.
The answer to the question God asks through Isaiah, “do you not perceive it?” is probably “no.” Throughout history people don’t perceive that God is making a way through rugged, unforgiving terrain, or supplying life-giving springs in the desert. But it’s core among reasons I worship God. He creates something where there was absolutely nothing: there was no path, there was nothing to sustain. There was no hope, or money, or time, or energy. There was no job. There were no children or parents or loving spouse. Sometimes there was not even faith, but God created something out of nothing anyway.
Being creative myself, I kind of like it that God asks us sometimes to remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Sometimes he does an entirely new thing just because he can. Us humans may think we’re doing something new, but really we’re just recycling and rearranging the matter he created out of nothing.
PRAYER: Oh God, I grieve that to so many you are only a myth. May they encounter you as the way-maker and water-bearer you have been for me – creating something good where nothing was before. Thank you for doing a new thing!

How much more of a myth it is to imagine creation evolving from ?? nothing? a big bang? That takes more faith than I have! If something has been created, there as to be a creator! (BTW, *we* humans, not *us* humans, lol. Caught you!

Agreed. Therein lies the “myth,” people don’t believe they’ve been created, they believe they are random collections of cells without meaning or purpose or design. What a life.
