SCRIPTURE: Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me. I will bear the indignation of the Lord because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my cause and executes judgment for me. He will bring me out to the light; I shall look upon his vindication. Micah 7:8-9 ESV
THOUGHT: When we persist in holding onto the ways we “miss the mark,” whether out of pride or lust or even desperation to get something right in our own power, we are holding onto our chains, even if we aren’t aware of it consciously. We are battling with God over what he says versus what we want, and the chains weigh us down. I believe it’s okay to argue with God because there is precedence for it in Scripture, but it’s not okay to argue with him over our sin.
Just as with Micah, God has his reasons when he is indignant with us. But even then, there is a promise that, when we come into agreement with him and what he is asking of us, he will bring light to our darkness. The same God who judges will be the one who pleads our cause and executes righteous judgement. We’ll drop the chains that bind us to our own ways, step out into the light, and feel the freedom of vindication. What a mystery, but what a relief.
Don’t run from repentance; there is relief in agreeing with God and laying down the chains of our own choosing.
SONG:
Some say the cost of confession lies in the cost to their pride
Some pay the price without flinching and come back refreshed and alive
But some may hold back wond’ring who they will be if they leave their sin there at his feet
Allow me to say of that weight off my heart, you’ll just be forgiven and free!Repentance, revival, amen.
Amy L. Clemens, Repentance. Revival. Amen., 10.13.23
So be it so much that I’ll say it again
Repentance, revival, amen, oh
Repentance. Revival. Amen!
PRAYER: Oh God, why do I ever run from you? You are the only one who can bring light to my darkness, the only one who can make a righteous judgement, and the only one who would vindicate and free the guilty, taking the punishment yourself.
