SCRIPTURE: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6 NIV
THOUGHT: We don’t really come ready into the presence of God if we’re not hungry.
If we come full of self, there is no room for him. If we come full of ideas about what God should be doing, there’s no room for his will. If we come noisy, there’s no space for his voice to speak. To be spiritually hungry is to come longing for filling and renewing, aware we don’t have what we need without it, confessing what and where we lack, ready to just be still and allow God to speak.
The good news is there may be surprises at the table when we come hungering and thirsting for righteousness.

Amy L. Clemens, Come Hungry, 9.26.19
Will lay aside our own, and come hungry.
His father’s heart is good and when we ask for bread,
We won’t be given stones, so come hungry.
Come hungry when your world is full, and
When your broken heart has come unraveled.
Come hungry when you think you have no needs and
When your confidence is shattered –
Come hungry.
PRAYER: Oh God, sometimes we are so full of self or doubt or anxiety or ideas we don’t even recognize how hungry we are for the bread and water of life. Forgive us, and thank you for the promise from your own lips that we are blessed when we hunger and thirst for righteousness … because you’ll fill us.
