Little Lesson 19: Leap Year Leaping

SCRIPTURE:  The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:22-24 ESV

THOUGHT: February has always seemed like a special month to me. I liked that it contained Valentine’s Day, then Abe and George’s birthdays with my own tucked in the middle, and sometimes an extra day thrown in at the end for good measure. It’s unique among months!

Well, today we celebrate leap year, and as part of my personal celebration (did you know that was a thing?), I’m going to take next week off. I’m leaping off to Michigan to help my daughter drive to Phoenix … and what a leap it will be: the drive itself is 2200 miles, and it’s a big leap for her leaving the state she’s always lived in behind for a new chapter. Your prayers for us appreciated!

I’m ending my month-long series of sharing lyrics with one I wrote in 2019. It’s really more-of-same in some ways – the deeper realization that without God’s presence I cannot do real life. The blessing of God’s mercies never coming to an end, being new each morning based on his faithfulness, not my own, is incredible.

Perhaps you’re one who’s struggled to take a leap of faith to even believe in God, but I am here to witness that there are even greater leaps than that in the journey of faith. Perhaps that one is the scariest, but leaping into his promises one-at-a-time is exhilarating, and I for one am glad he is my portion, therefore I will hope in him!

SONG:

Here in the quiet, I’m seeing things more clearly, and
You were so right, I needed time to hear you speak, so
You have my heart, I’ll trust when I can’t see
Turn toward your face, embrace this mystery:
You’ll take me in, shower me with grace, and
take me to the place where life begins again, and
take me to the place where life begins.

Amy L. Clemens, Where Life Begins, 7.12.19

PRAYER: Oh God, life is full of leaps of one kind or another. May we choose the leaps that land us closer to you – thus closer to real life.
